Gingrich the Tyrant
Monday, December 19, 2011 at 9:04PM Newt Gingrich made news this week with a couple of media encounters where he suggests he would ignore rulings by the courts including the US Supreme Court if he were to disagree with their rulings. He wants to look like a tough guy but in taking these positions he reveals his disrespect or perhaps lack of knowledge of the separation of powers that were designed into our Constitution to prevent the rise of a monarch, tyrant, and dictator from the presidency.
You don’t have to look very far to see examples in Venezuela, Hondurus, and other countries where presidents, perhaps even elected presidents, managed to destroy their representative constitutional republics into dictatorships.
Does Newt really believe Barack Obama should have and use these same powers to eliminate the next presidential election? If he has these powers all he has to do is sign an executive order declaring himself President for life and then just ignore any attempt by the courts to rein him in if he disagrees with their ruling that he cannot abolish elections?
Another one bites the dust.
